Spring has finally arrived! In Japan, while cherry blossoms are capturing everyone's attention, the countdown to the new season's tea harvest has also begun. We'll be drunk with shincha tasting in a few months.

For now, we're happy to present a collection of pottery from Japan, much of it from the town of Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture. I lived there in 1999-2000, and made numerous trips back in the following few years.

The people and pottery of Mashiko definitely have a special place in my heart.

We hope that you will also enjoy the warmth of Mashiko-yaki.

Yutakimidori Organic Sencha - 2023 1st Harvest
Origin: Hioki, Kagoshima Prefecture
Cultivar: Yutakamidori
This organic sencha has a light grassy aroma with notes of pepper and citrus. It has a good balance of shibumi (astringency) and amami (sweetness) with shibumi diminishing and amami increasing in 2nd and 3rd infusions.

The city of Hioki is on the western coast of Kagoshima, facing out towards the East China Sea. It is a recently formed city created by the mergers of the small towns of Fukiage, Higashiichiki, Hiyoshi, and Ijuuin. Tea farmers there grow a variety of cultivars, including this fine example of Yutakamidori.
