Spring has finally arrived! In Japan, while cherry blossoms are capturing everyone's attention, the countdown to the new season's tea harvest has also begun. We'll be drunk with shincha tasting in a few months.
For now, we're happy to present a collection of pottery from Japan, much of it from the town of Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture. I lived there in 1999-2000, and made numerous trips back in the following few years.
The people and pottery of Mashiko definitely have a special place in my heart.
We hope that you will also enjoy the warmth of Mashiko-yaki.

Kakewake (Split Glaze) Vintage Tea Bowl, ca. mid-20th C. Possibly Seto-ware. Dark Brown glaze with White Glaze (that has darkened over time) each covering part of the bowl. The foot is unglazed. The well has a shallow swirl pattern carved into it and the side of the bowl has a small impressed dimple for the thumb to hold onto. There is a stamp near the foot, but it is unrecognizable. H. 3.125"(8cm) x Dia. 4.625"(11.75cm). Weight 297 grams.
